The sun was rising and the air was cool as your Rooosevelt Mustang XC teams prepared for their CIF-SS Finals day on Nov. 18th . Everyone was more quiet than usual with knowing what was at stake on Saturday… a spot at the CIF State Meet. Every was mentally preparing for their races.
Your girls would toe the line first and go on to finish 19th in a race where they were expected to be 22nd. Paloma Barron led your girls to a personal best of 18:07 on the CIF course finishing her stellar senior season on a high note. The finishing order for your girls on this day was Kimberly Pena, Abigale Rippe, Miranda Camargo, Esmeralda Iribe, Natalia Ibarra and Jordan Hernandez. The major highlight of the day was that we will be returning 5 of the 7 girls who competed next season and look to improve on this years finish. This was the girls 4th trip to CIF Finals in as many years and they look to keep the streak alive.
The boys continued their best season in school history with a CIF-SS Runner Up finish, taking second place behind Great Oak HS. This is one spot ahead of last years 3rd place finish. We have two boys finish in the top 15, Tyler Spencer (3rd) and Raymon Ornelas (11th). The top 5 was rounded out by Michael Sahagun, Raul Chavez and Moises Rendon. Matthew Lieberman and Ricardo Sainz rounded out the top 7 boys for the meet. This was an off performance for some of our boys but their effort was good enough as a team to qualify for the CIF State Meet.
CIF STATE MEET
The boys went into the race ranked as the #2 team in the state in Div. 1 and didn’t disappoint. They came back from an off performance at CIF Finals to take 2nd place in the State of California in Div. 1 and finish as the #2 team in CA for the entire day earning them a chance to compete at NXN!! The boys were lead by huge performances by Tyler Spencer (3rd) and Raymon Ornelas (7th), who earned all state honors. Closing up the scoring was Raul Chavez, Michael Sahagun and Moises Rendon. Matthew and Aaron Lieberman finished 6th and 7th on the team. These boys will be moving on Nike Cross Nationals this weekend in Portland, Oregon.
The boys ran the smartest race they could being in 5th as a team and moving all the way up to 1st place by the end of the 2nd mile. Great Oak was able to hold off our boys to win it all, but closing to within 15 pts after being blown out by 59 pts the week before is unheard of and shows how much our boys stepped it up on Saturday. We also beat 3rd place Dana Hills by 37 pts after only beating them by 5 the week prior.
NXN is the National Championship race for cross country and only two teams in the entire state are guaranteed entry and your boys are one of them!!! They will fly up to Oregon to participate for the first time in school history and is only the second team in Riverside county history to attend!
This was end goal for our 4 year Varsity Boys who set out on a mission to put Roosevelt XC on the map and they sure did that! This group of boys set records since they were freshman as a team and did not stop there. Throughout their 4 year journey they have 3 league titles, 2 Riverside County Team Championships, a CIF Finals Runner Up, a CIF State meet 3rd, and a CIF State Meet Runner Up. This is by far the most successful group in school history in any sport as a team!!
