After their first month of competition your ERHS Boys and Girls track team are 2-0 in the BIG VIII League and have already set some of the top marks in the state of CA across several events. Long time school records have also fallen.
Chandler Rotary Invite
So let’s start with the school record that has fallen. UC Davis commit Anthony Easter has finally claimed the top spot on the records list for the 300m Hurdles which was previously held by 2010 300H CIF Champion Austin Hill. Anthony claimed the 110H record last year. His time was #3 all time at the Chandler Rotary Invite behind Olympian Devin Allen Formerly of Oregon and is also the #1 time in the state this year in that event. Here is a link to an interview with Anthony after his race: Here
Anthony’s female counterpart Breanna Bernard Joseph also won the 300H, which puts her #3 on the all time meet list and currently #3 in the state in the event.
The girls 4×400 took the #3 spot in CA as well as the #3 spot on the all time list. The girls team consisted of Breanna Bernard Joseph, Alexys Ford, Shaelyn Amos and Chaselyn Amos. The boys team took the #4 spot in meet history and the #2 spot in the state. This is a great feat since it featured a new face on the squad in Lucas Anotado who stepped up big time for relay teammates Anthony Easter, Jackson Taylor and Jalen Jonhson.
Back home the rest of the team shined on our home turf where several personal records were set and the record books were also rewritten! Outstanding Freshman Pole Vaulter Tessa Watkins broke the long standing Freshman PV record held by Riverside County Record Holder Gardenia Centanaro clearing 10′ 7″. The crazy thing is that she is also a nationally ranked Platform Diver (Swim) and is excelling in both at the moment!
On the High Jump side of the program, Freshman Michelle Ugonne has continued to impress clearing 5’2″ in the HJ for the second time in one week. She looks to improve by the seasons end which may help our girls programs CIF hopes as a team later on!
On the Throws side of the program we currently have two girls moving quickly up the all time list in Lydia Liu and Lauren Odette who currenly hold the #3 and #5 spots on the all time list in the Discus and Lydia is currently #2 on the Shot Put list as well. Kehlin Hayes and Joseph Ballard also continue to move the list in their respective events as well. Kehlin currently holds the #4 spot on school history.
The distance crew tore it up on Saturday. Our girls rewrote the record books with their awesome 1600m on Saturday. They were led by Senior Brittany Marrero who won the event down the last 100m and was followed by teammate Paloma Barron, who dipped under 5:20 for the first time. We have 8 girls under 5:45 for the first time in school history and their times may have been fast enough for their first ever trip to Arcadia. Senior Isaiah Madrigal set a personal best in the 800 to win the event and is now #5 on the all time list. Raymon Ornelas won the 1600 in a seasonal best time and was followed by 5 teammates who all dipped under 4:30 for the mile. These times should be good enough for a B relay team at the prestigious Arcadia Invitational being held next weekend in Arcadia, CA.

Our next BIG VIII Dual Meet is on April 12th at ML King HS, this meet will most likely decide the 2017 BIG VIII League Championship. We have had classic duals with ML King over the past few years and last year was no different! The boys look to reclaim their title and the girls look to extend their streak. Come on out and support, meet starts at 3:15 pm.
